You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. ~Mark Twain
How exactly does your imagination get out of focus? It starts simply…and then grows from chasing squirrels to buses to shiny objects. The brain clutter starts to choke out the creativity – like ivy overgrowth in your landscaped yard.
It’s a huge challenge for entrepreneurs who have at least one great idea every day – if not every hour. Never fear! This week’s grab bag is a true eclectic variety of resources to help you get a grip and get back in focus. Let’s dive in!
Copyblogger is consistently one of the best blogs to read if any part of your business is online especially, of course, if that includes blogging. But, even if it doesn’t, Copyblogger is an amazing resource. It’s about business and doing business in a way that is real and not gimmicky. This particular post about creativity killers is in that exact vein: real business, no gimmicks, common sense at its best. It focuses on the eight “very worst habits that could be holding you back every day.” What’s lucky number 7? Being overwhelmed by information – suffering from analysis paralysis (aka shiny objects + squirrels). Ummm hmmm…major creativity killer not to mention action hijacker.
Pinterest is the latest social media darling – and for good reason. It is visual – a virtual collection of pinboards where people (mostly women) have pinned the best stuff they find on the web in pictures (with links). Whether you are interested in cats, Mason jars or planning a wedding you can find something here. Some of my favorites are related to inspirational quotes and there are lots of options to explore. Be sure to check out Edna Dougher’s Quotable Quotes board, Mando Yancho’s Inspiration and Living Words, Jennifer Pollock’s Quotes To Focus On and my One Part Inspiration.
If you haven’t seen Up! (the movie), you are missing out for lots of reasons. I have a whole level of appreciation for animated movies that are great for the kids and pretty flippin’ entertaining for the parents too (the ones with ’80′s references are my favs naturally). This particular set of clips from Up! is all about squirrels…and distractions. Chasing those squirrels can certainly have some unintended and pretty funny consequences – and not just for dogs!
I wasn’t sure how a blog post, a virtual pin board and a movie would get along but it looks like it is working out to be a great mix! In the comments…what is your favorite focus resource and your biggest shiny object issue?Pin It
